A generous $100,000 donation was presented to the San Marino Unified School District (SMUSD) by the PT Affiliates at the District’s school board meeting. Just in time for the holidays, the donation will be allocated for professional development for teachers.

“The school board and myself are very appreciative of the PT Affiliates’ continued generosity,” said San Marino Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Jeff Wilson. “This money will help our teachers continue to stay on top of the latest educational trends and develop their craft even further with additional professional development opportunities.”

Stephanie Duncan from PT Affiliates presented the six-figure check at Tuesday’s Board of Education meeting and was received with smiles and sincere gratitude from the school board, staff, and superintendent.

“For San Marino to remain one of the best school districts in California, it’s essential for our teachers to have opportunities for professional development, and they absolutely deserve it. This will also have a direct impact on our students, which is terrific. Our entire district is extremely grateful to the PT Affiliates and everyone who supports us with their generosity,” explained Dr. Wilson.

SMUSD recently outscored the entire state of California for the fifth straight year when it had the highest percentage of students meeting and exceeding standards on the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP). Adding to this extraordinary feat, San Marino students showed a 2% increase in English-Language Art scores and a 0.5% improvement in Math proficiencies. Before CAASPP, San Marino ranked first among unified school districts for fifteen consecutive years due to its high percentage of students meeting and exceeding state standards as reflected by the Academic Performance Index (API). San Marino was also recently honored by Niche as the best school district in the Los Angeles area. Additionally, every school in the SMUSD is both a California Distinguished and National Blue Ribbon School, an extremely rare distinction for California school districts.

PT Affiliates is a non-profit organization whose goal is to provide support to the students and schools of the San Marino Unified School District. Every year, the PT Affiliates contributes countless hours of volunteer services and significant financial support to the community’s schools.
