Sequoyah School Alum Sula Bermudez-Silverman Featured in Prestigious 2026 Whitney Museum Biennial

A member of Sequoyah School’s Class of 2007 is earning national recognition in the contemporary art world as alumna Sula Bermudez-Silverman has been selected to exhibit work in the prestigious 2026 Whitney Biennial at the Whitney Museum of American Art. Bermudez-Silverman’s sculptural practice is distinguished by its thoughtful exploration of the contextual origins and evolving trajectories of the materials they use, combining intensive research with mythological and historical narratives to examine how the past continues to shape the present. Throughout their body of work, familiar architectural and functional objects—including windows, saddles, and staircases—are reimagined as symbolic thresholds that bridge different ways of understanding the world while inviting viewers to consider how history quietly embeds itself within the subconscious.
