Sequoyah SIP Students Dive into Research at the Los Angeles Public Library

Students in Sequoyah’s Social Innovation Program (SIP) recently took their studies beyond the classroom during Deep Dive Week with a visit to the Los Angeles Public Library. Ninth and tenth graders studying Story & Power and Data & Research explored the innovative Octavia Lab, which offers podcasting and music recording studios, a photo studio, 3D printing technology, and other creative resources—all available to the public at no cost. The Data & Research cohort also toured the library’s extensive map archives, home to more than half a million rare and fascinating maps documenting Southern California’s rich history and geography.

Deep Dive Week provides SIP students with opportunities to engage directly with experts and community spaces through field trips and on-campus guests. By connecting with a wide range of voices and environments, students grapple with diverse perspectives, strengthen their skills as thoughtful researchers, and reflect on the knowledge gaps they must address in order to clearly define and solve complex problems.
