South Pasadena High School Track & Field Athletes Impress at CIF State Championships
Blink and you might miss them! Hearty congratulations to three SPHS track and field athletes who battled hard, ran quickly, and achieved impressive results at the 2024 CIF State Championships, a highly prestigious event encompassing all CIF high schools in California. This championship is recognized as one of the best state track meets in the country.
After advancing through the preliminaries on Friday, May 24, which narrowed the field to the top nine or 12 athletes in each event statewide, the SPHS athletes achieved remarkable success in Saturday’s finals. The California State track meet does not have divisions, so our athletes competed against the best in the entire state.
Mia Holden, a 12th grader and UCLA commit, earned a second place finish in the 100m hurdles with a school record time of 13.83. She then returned an hour later to secure fourth place in the 300m hurdles, completing an impressive double.
Keeran Murray, also in 12th grade and committed to Yale, had an exceptional race in the 800m, finishing third and breaking his previous school record with a time of 1:51.08.
Finally, Abigail Errington, an 11th grader, competed in the 3200m race for her first trip to the state track championships. She performed incredibly well on the big stage, finishing sixth overall out of the top 12 runners in California.
South Pasadena was the only school in the San Gabriel Valley to have three athletes medal in four different events at this high-level competition. We are so proud of our fleet-footed Tigers!
