St. Rita School: 99 years of History, Faith, Community and Excellence

Choosing the right school for your child is no easy task. But when you combine a rich history, faith, excellence and community, it’s a winning combination. Sierra Madre’s storied St. Rita School continues to make strides as it approaches its centennial year – even during a pandemic.

“Our school and parish community is more united than ever before. We are proud of our 99-year legacy,” said Danii Gleason, president of the St. Rita PTO and parent of three children. “Our school and church community have come together to give our students and faculty the support and tools they need to thrive whether at home or at school.”

The Catholic school, renowned for its top academic and athletic programs, released a new video highlighting its 99-year success. The video captures the spirit of St. Rita and features teachers and staff, students and distinguished alumni highlighting the TK-8th school’s robust programs.

“When I arrive on campus, I feel as I have arrived home,” said Maryann Griffin, a long-time fifth grade teacher. “The love, the warmth, being whoever you are, whatever you are is like no other.”

“With some of the highest test scores, a renowned athletic program, we provide a pathway to the best high schools and beyond,” said St. Rita Principal Adela Solis.

St. Rita is also pleased to welcome back its legendary athletic director, Randy Davies, whose leadership has guided students over 50 school years.

“St. Rita has a tremendous sports legacy. It’s not something that has gone on for a year or two. It’s something that has lasted for decades,” Davies said.

Behind the scenes, parents and PTO board members created plexiglass barriers in anticipation for a return to campus and installed air purifiers in each classroom.
