2021 Celebrating Children honorees: Local Philanthropist Elizabeth Hoxworth (l) and Los Angeles City Council Member Mark Ridley-Thomas (r)

Hathaway-Sycamores Child and Family Services 11th Annual Celebrating Children Spring Gala fundraiser is going virtual. ABC affiliate television news anchor Peter Daut will emcee this festive evening filled with inspiring stories, surprise guests and an enticing silent auction all in support of programs and services for the vulnerable population served by the agency. Guests at the March 13th event will also enjoy a special appearance by Davis Gaines, Broadway actor and Los Angeles’ longest-running Phantom of the Opera. The event starts at 6:00 p.m. and concludes at 7:00 p.m. and will truly be a night to remember! Free tickets are available to the virtual gala in addition to purchased tickets and sponsorship opportunities.

The centerpiece of Celebrating Children is the presentation of the Hathaway-Sycamores’ Celebrating Children Award. The 2021 Celebrating Children honorees are local philanthropist Elizabeth Hoxworth and Los Angeles City Council Member Mark Ridley-Thomas. They are receiving this honor in recognition of their tireless dedication, leadership and commitment to improving the lives of children, families and adults in the Los Angeles community. Funds raised from this event will help provide critical support to the work Hathaway-Sycamores is doing to address the mental health needs of low-income children, young adults and families – including those who are in foster care or are experiencing homelessness – which have escalated dramatically during the pandemic.

According to Hathaway-Sycamores President and CEO Debra Manners, “This past year has been challenging for everyone and we are ready for a celebration.” Ms. Manners adds, “We are truly excited to host this event as a virtual experience this year and share it with a wider community than we would be able to with an in-person gala.”

The Celebrating Children Spring Gala committee is co-chaired by Pasadena residents Rita Henderson and Karen Palmersheim. Formerly the Community Affairs Manager for Nestlé USA, Rita Henderson is a longtime Hathaway-Sycamores donor and supporter. Karen Palmersheim is the Senior Counsel for Cigna Legal and serves on the Hathaway-Sycamores Board of Directors.
