Founded on June 17, 1921 during its inaugural meeting at the Shakespeare Club, the College Women’s Club of Pasadena has maintained its foundational principles over the century.

Under the leadership of Marie Hinricks, wife of a Caltech professor, the Club commenced with modest dues of $1 per year and rapidly grew to have 206 members from 59 colleges by 1923. Today, the Club continues its legacy by offering scholarships and fellowships to deserving women in local colleges while fostering social and intellectual opportunities for Pasadena women.

In the 2023-2024 academic year, the Club awarded a total of $61,500 in scholarships and fellowships to 17 recipients. These recipients, hailing from various educational institutions such as East Los Angeles College, Glendale Community College, Pasadena City College, Pacific Oaks College, and California State University Los Angeles Schools of Nursing and Criminalistics, stand testament to the Club’s commitment to empowering women in education.

Remaining true to its founding objectives, the College Women’s Club of Pasadena strives to offer financial support to women attending colleges in the Pasadena area, strengthen the camaraderie among college women in Pasadena, and foster continuous personal and intellectual growth among its members.
