Boston Court Pasadena will present encore screenings of National Theatre Live’s acclaimed production of “A Streetcar Named Desire” beginning July 19.

The screenings offer local audiences a chance to experience the groundbreaking 2014 production that garnered five-star reviews from major publications.

“The acting is superb, with Gillian Anderson giving the performance of her career as Blanche DuBois… there isn’t a moment when the tension slackens or attention lapses. It is an absolute knock-out,” wrote Charles Spencer of The Daily Telegraph.

The production, directed by Benedict Andrews at London’s Young Vic Theatre, features Anderson alongside Ben Foster as Stanley and Vanessa Kirby as Stella.

It was filmed during a sold-out run in 2014 and was broadcast live on September 16 of that year.

Andrews set the production in modern-day New Orleans, updating Williams’ 1947 Pulitzer Prize-winning play. “Gillian Anderson is electrifying as Blanche DuBois while director Benedict Andrews’s modern-day setting allows Tennessee Williams’s play to feel bracingly fresh,” wrote Henry Hitchings of The Evening Standard.

The production features a constantly revolving set designed by Magda Willi.

The Sunday Telegraph noted, “Foster as Stanley matches Anderson blow for blow in their big showdowns…Kirby is touchingly vulnerable as Stella.”

National Theatre Live now screens productions in more than 2,500 cinemas across 70 countries worldwide.

Boston Court Pasadena, founded in 2003, has been a two-time recipient of the National Theatre Company Award from the American Theatre Wing.

The screenings are scheduled for July 19 at 2 p.m., July 20 at 2 p.m., July 21 at 7 p.m., and July 27 at 5 p.m.

Tickets are $27 for all showings.
