First-Ever Altadena Pride Walkabout Today

Published on Jun 4, 2022

Altadena will be hosting its first annual Pride Walkabout on Saturday, June 11, in connection with LGBTQ+ Pride month.

Altadena Town Councilmember Nic Arnzen is organizing the event, which consists of a walk through Central Altadena, with stops to include shopping and flag waving along North Lake Ave. and Mariposa Street, an interfaith exploration of faith at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, a free lunch in Triangle Park, and a closing festival at the Altadena Community Center.

The walk begins with an opening ceremony on the front lawn of the Altadena Main Library at 600 E. Mariposa Street, at about 10 a.m.

At the community center, the closing festival will include community resource tables, a health fair, live performances, a LGBTQ+ themed art gallery, a regional LGBTQ+ Youth Summit, and a classic auto show.

Folks with mobility issues are welcome to join for any part of the day, as all locations are accessible.

There’s even a free Pride Flag giveaway. If you want to hang a flag on your home and show your support for LGBTQ+ Pride Month, just head to the Altadena Senior Center at 560 E Mariposa St. on Saturday, June 4, between 2 and 4 p.m., and pick up a free flag.

If you can’t make it on the 4th, you can stop by Webster’s Community Pharmacy starting Monday and get your free pride flag, while supplies last.

The event is also being generously supported and hosted by the Altadena Libraries, Altadena Senior Center, Altadena Sheriff’s Dept., Altadena Rotary Club, St. Mark’s Church, LA County Department of Parks and Recreation, and the Altadena Heritage Society.

If you are looking to volunteer or want a sneak preview of the June 11 event, you can meet with other community members at the Altadena Main Library on Saturday, June 4, for an advance look at the route and what the day will hold.

Area businesses are encouraged to show their support by donating giveaways, refreshments, waters, and other necessities. Just get in touch with Councilmember Arnzen at Nic.Arnzen@AltadenaTownCouncil.org for info on how to become a Participating Business during the event.
