After moving to an online-only format last year, ArtNight Pasadena will take place early next month in a hybrid format, to include a variety of virtual, outdoor and indoor events aimed at celebrating art in all its forms, organizers said.

Nineteen local arts organizations are planning performances, concerts, galleries and other events as part of the annual tradition planned for 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Oct. 8, including 10 which are planning in-person events, ArtNight Pasadena Coordinator Jayme Filippini said.

“Some of our organizations have already started having in-person events and they want it to be in-person, and others are more comfortable with virtual,” she said. “So we decided to do a hybrid event where we could have the best of both worlds.”

Due to ongoing concerns over the highly contagious Delta variant, strict pandemic safety protocols will be in place, organizers said.

Some events require advanced registration, and all indoor activities will require masks. At some larger indoor events, proof of vaccination or proof of a recent negative COVID-19 test may be required for entry.

Shuttles will not be provided this year, with the exception of two wheelchair-accessible buses to assist guests with disabilities.

After last year’s online-only ArtNight, Filippini said it was good to be back in the community, at least partially.

“The city’s been working hard to support our cultural arts organizations during the pandemic and having art night is a way for us to let the public know that our organizations are still functioning. They’re still active. They’re still creating art and opportunities for people to get involved in the arts.”

“Even if a lot of it is online, we’re starting to see them open up and they’re starting to have more in-person events,” Filippini added, “And so we hope that people will use ArtNight to go and investigate the organizations’ websites so that they can see what’s going on as we get back to a more normal type of life here in Pasadena.”
