Author Victoria Ying Discusses “Hungry Ghost”

Victoria Ying will discuss her latest work, “Hungry Ghost,”a beautiful and heart-wrenching young adult graphic novel that explores themes of eating disorders, family dynamics, and a journey to self-love at an exciting event for all book lovers and graphic novel enthusiasts on Wednesday, April 26 at 6:00 p.m.,

Valerie Chu is the protagonist of “Hungry Ghost.” She is quiet, studious, and above all, thin. No one, not even her best friend Jordan, knows that she has been struggling with bingeing and purging for years. But when tragedy strikes, Val is forced to take a hard look at her priorities, choices, and her own body. She sets out on a path to happiness, away from her hometown and her mother’s toxic projections, but first, she must find the strength to seek help.

Victoria Ying is a critically acclaimed author and artist living in Los Angeles. She started her career in the arts by falling in love with comic books, which eventually turned into a career working in animation and graphic novels. Her film credits include popular titles such as Tangled, Wreck it Ralph, Frozen, Paperman, Big Hero 6, and Moana. She is the author and illustrator of her own series “City of Secrets and City of Illusion” through Penguin/Viking and the illustrator of the DC series “Diana Princess of the Amazons.” Victoria’s upcoming graphic novel projects include her YA debut, “Hungry Ghost,” and the Marvel/Scholastic “Shang-Chi and the Secret of Immortality.”
