California Art Club Hosts Artist Sunday with ‘Welcome to California’ Exhibit

Published on Nov 27, 2020

Pasadena-based California Art Club, the oldest arts organization in the West, will unveil “Welcome to California” on Sunday, November 29, a virtual display that showcases more than 200 small works – both paintings and sculptures – of the land and lifestyle of the Golden State.

This Sunday after Thanksgiving is the inaugural Artists Sunday, a nationwide art-shopping movement where American consumers are encouraged to support their communities this holiday season by buying meaningful and unique gifts from the more than 3,300 artists, artisans and craftspeople in over 500 communities that are participating.

Artists Sunday seeks to help artists who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has shut down 96 percent of in-person art shows and festivals. A normal year sees over 00 million people attending these arts and crafts events in the United States. Due to the pandemic, the creative economy has lost more than $14 billion since March, according to a survey by Americans for the Arts.

“Art offers what we all need right now – a meaningful way to stay connected with family, friends, neighbors and co-workers,” said Artists Sunday founder Christopher Sherman. “Black Friday and Cyber Monday may offer the hot deals on the latest gadgets, but Artists Sunday provides you a special opportunity to give a personal gift this holiday season.”

“Welcome to California,” will feature works by more than 300 California artists, from pristine landscapes and seascapes to figurative works and still lifes. All paintings offered in this virtual exhibition will be no larger than 12 x 16 inches, and the longest dimension for sculptures will be 12 inches.

On sale will be a full range of artisan items, from jewelry, painting and pottery to sculpture, home items and clothing; from the practical and useful to the decorative and whimsical or all of the above, and items for you, your home, your family and friends.

Art enthusiasts who purchase $500 of artwork from the exhibition will receive a gift certificate for a complimentary one-year membership at either the Associate Artist or Patron level for a new member. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of these works will benefit the organization’s arts educational programming.

Founded in 1909, the California Art Club is a 501(c)(3) educational nonprofit organization built on the foundation of promoting and supporting contemporary-traditional fine art. As one of the oldest, largest and most active art organizations in the country, the Club is committed to keeping traditional art alive and continues to conduct unique outreach programs to attract new generations of artists and patrons alike.
