This weekend’s Bead and Design show at the Pasadena Hilton is not only a chance for hundreds of experienced artisans to ply their trade and offer their wares. It’s also a chance for would-be-designers to learn new and traditional skills in a host of jewelry and beadwork skills.

The event’s workshops will be offered throughout the show, from 8am – 9pm each day.

The classes are taught by beadmakers and artisans, offering step-by-step instruction for all skill levels, and most include tools & materials. New artists can find hands-on training in jewelry design, polymer clay, wirework, crystal setting, bead making, art clay silver, hand knotting, mixed media, chainmaille, and enameling.

Said show director Casey Kennerson in an interview earlier this week, “They’re open for beginners and we have some that are more advanced, too, but most of them are just for all stages.

“We have some basics like jewelry making,” she continued, “where you can take different beads and gems and make a bracelet or earrings. We have some metalsmithing where you’re making things like a wire, a bangle bracelet. On the other side, we have some painting workshops and even a beginners’ painting workshop, which is new this time.”

The bead and design workshops are also open to children, Kennerson added.
