Tonight: Clazzical Notes Dishes Up a “Delicious Gumbo” of Blues, Jazz and Country

Published on Mar 14, 2021

Those ready to celebrate TGIF (Thank God, it’s Friday) will want to consider attending Clazzical Notes’ musical ‘gumbo’ of blues, jazz, and country on Friday, March 26 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The online presentation of “One Note to Blues & Jazz and Two Steps to Country” features Nashville songwriter/actress Lauren Braddock Havey performing with Grammy award-winning songwriter/singer Don Henry, jazz pianist Gary Matsumoto, jazz singer Melissa Morgan, bluesman Preston Smith, and jazz singer Maiya Sykes, who studied with Nina Simone.

Jerri Price Gaines, Executive Director and driving force behind Clazzical Notes takes the reigns as host and moderator for the program.

“When talking just doesn’t seem to work, the best way to communicate is music!” says Price Gaines. “And since enhancing communication between cultures is a huge part of Clazzical Notes’ mission, we’re excited to be showcasing three genres rarely performed together in the same program. Jazz and blues were founded by two different Black men from the South, country by a white man from Mississippi but who also sang the blues. These days, when many of us are experiencing Covid burnout, our ‘gumbo mix’ may just be what the doctor ordered – a dose of joy.”

The program is offered free of charge to the public with a suggested donation of $10. To register visit
