Cosmic Cocktail Hour with Carnegie Observatories: The Building Blocks of Galaxies in the Local Universe

Published on Feb 21, 2022

The Pasadena Senior Center will host Dr. Ivanna Escala, Carnegie-Princeton Postdoctoral Fellow at the Carnegie Observatories in Pasadena, on the virtual Cosmic Cocktail Hour with Carnegie Observatories, this Wednesday, Feb. 23, starting at 4 p.m.

This edition is titled “The Building Blocks of Galaxies in the Local Universe.” Dr. Escala will discuss how large galaxies grow over cosmic time and provide an overview on what past studies of local galaxies, particularly the Milky Way and its sister galaxy Andromeda, have revealed about the building blocks of galaxies in the broader universe.

The discussion is expected to answer the question: “How did we go from clumps of matter in the early universe to the large and complex galaxies – like our own Milky Way – that we see in the local universe today?”

This will be a Zoom event and reservations are required.
