Dinner and a Movie at One Colorado Featuring ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’

Published on Aug 28, 2021

One Colorado will show “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” starring Matthew Broderick, during Summer Flicks, the most sought-after Friday night event of the year, in the Courtyard on September 3, starting at 8:30 p.m.

In the movie, Ferris has an uncanny skill at cutting classes and getting away with it. Intending to make one last duck-out before graduation, Ferris calls in sick, “borrows” a Ferrari, and embarks on a one-day journey through the streets of Chicago. On Ferris’ trail is high school principal Rooney (played by Jeffrey Jones), determined to catch him in the act.

“Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” released in 1986, is written, produced, and directed by John Hughes, and co-produced by Tom Jacobson. Ferris, a high-school slacker, skips school for a day in Chicago, with Mia Sara and Alan Ruck. Ferris regularly breaks the fourth wall (addresses the audience directly) to explain his techniques and inner thoughts.

Featuring many Chicago landmarks, including the then Sears Tower, Wrigley Field and the Art Institute of Chicago, the film was John Hughes’s love letter to Chicago.

“I really wanted to capture as much of Chicago as I could. Not just in the architecture and landscape, but the spirit,” Hughes said in a director’s commentary released in 2016, during the film’s 30th anniversary commemoration.

The film became one of the top-grossing films of 1986, grossing $70 million over a $5 million budget. In 2014, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress, being deemed “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”

Patrons who’d like to be seated in lounge seating should arrive up to one hour before showtime. Lounge seating is based on a first-come, first-served basis. Making a restaurant reservation at Sushi Roku or Sage Vegan Bistro and Brewery is also recommended. General seating with personal chairs and blankets is permitted based on capacity.

Popcorn provided by iPic and candy provided by Industrious are complimentary. A One Colorado bar is also accessible where you can order drinks and to-go meal options.
