Discover the Future of News with KPCC

Published on Oct 20, 2020

Southern California Public Radio’s KPCC and the USC Annenberg School for Journalism and Communication will hold their third and final installment of “The Future of Local News,” a discussion on the state of local news in the region, starting at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21.

The three-part series was designed to explore strategies for ensuring a sustainable and inclusive future for local news in Southern California, according to the organizers.

Panel members also assess the changing news landscape across communities and “news deserts” as well as innovative approaches, collaborations, business models and strategies for deepening public engagement.

Several journalism guests will join the event on Wednesday to discuss their vision of how news will look in the future. Among the guests are Jennifer Preston, Knight Foundation’s Vice President of Journalism; Sewell Chan, Los Angeles Time editorial pages editor; and KPCC executive editor Megan Marvey.

They will be talking about the various sustainable models to address a media environment that is increasingly shifting to digital sales and social media platforms.

USC Annenberg’s Gabe Kahn will be facilitating the conversation.

The series is free to attend, but registration is required.
