In a celebration of music and film, the City of La Cañada Flintridge will hold a special event Sunday, July 2, as part of the city’s 2023 Music in the Park Concert Series.

It starts at 6 p.m. at Memorial Park, at 1301 Foothill Blvd.

The opening act will be the Miskey Mountain Boys, a unique bluegrass band known for blending jazz, classical, and swing with traditional Bluegrass to create a distinctive genre they fondly refer to as “Classgrazz”.

The ensemble, featuring Michelle Lynskey, Debbie Kollgaard, John Marshall, Evan Marshall, and Alex Finazzo, has gained international acclaim for their performances at venues such as the Hollywood Bowl, Disney Studios, Pops Symphony Orchestras, the Tournament of Roses, and the Laguna Festival of the Arts.

Their performance will last until 7:30 p.m., filling the park with a vibrant energy.

After a brief intermission, the community will settle back at 8:30 p.m. for the screening of the animated film “Minions: The Rise of Gru.”

Directed by Kyle Balda and co-directed by Brad Ableson and Jonathan del Val, this 2022 American computer-animated comedy film is the sequel to the 2015 spin-off/prequel “Minions” and the fifth entry overall in the Despicable Me franchise.

The movie, which received positive reviews and grossed over $939 million worldwide in 2022, follows the adventures of an eleven-year-old Gru and his Minions as they plan to become supervillains, leading to a showdown with the malevolent team, the Vicious 6.

The event is part of a larger initiative by the City of La Cañada Flintridge – the 2023 Music in the Park Concert Series. The series, which is organized annually during the summer months, features 15 bands performing various genres of music from classic rock to reggae to soul.

The concerts and movies are free.
