Despite coming from different backgrounds, Joyce Abou Chaaya from the mechanical engineering world and her husband, Edgar Pashayan from management, the husband-wife duo dreamt of working in the food industry.
When the opportunity arose, they took a leap of faith with Float Coffee Shop on South Lake Avenue in Pasadena.
Since then Float Coffee Shop has grown to be renowned for their premium coffees and teas in Pasadena. They offer everything from matcha lattes to coffee drinks as well as many types of floats.
They offer classic floats and customers also have the option to build their own with their favorite sodas, ice cream flavors and multiple toppings
“Quality, service and location” gave Float the edge over the other coffee shops in Pasadena, owner Joyce Chaaya said.
“We stand out because we only use premium roasts and the very best ingredients in all we do,” she added.
Many people might be unaware but Float Coffee also offers multiple sandwich and salad options in addition to their new breakfast menu which has bagels and open-faced toast sandwiches.
“Some customer favorites are our lox bagels and avocado salmon toast,” Joyce continued, “we are frequently changing up our specials so there is always something new to try on our menu.”
Float Coffee also has a full catering menu specifically for events.
“We also have a full catering menu as well as a mobile coffee cart that can serve up drinks onsite at your next event,” she said.
This November marks the 10th anniversary of Float Coffee Shop.
A celebration is planned for November 8 from 4-7 p.m at the coffee shop’s location at 380 S. Lake Ave. to mark the occasion.
Live music, raffles, small bites and of course, floats will be flowing at the event.
Joyce said the celebration is a way for them to connect and say ‘thank you’ to the Pasadena community who supported Float Coffee Shop all these years, especially during the pandemic.
“We hope it’s a time for people to get out, have fun, connect, laugh and enjoy our community together. We cannot wait to celebrate with everyone.”
According to Joyce, Float Coffee Shop is whipping up plans for a new location in Hollywood located right near The Pantages Theater.
