The next time you place your ice-cold drink down on a coaster, you may want to think twice. That coaster just might be a work of art.

Here’s the proof: Gallery 30 South is bringing back the now-world-famous Annual Coaster Show, with opening receptions and previews taking place Thursday, October 1 through Sunday, October 4.

Join owner Matt Kennedy for an 8th year as he returns with dozens of unique drink coasters from several different artists, many of which can be considered as works of art.

After the receptions, the Coaster Show will be open for regular gallery visits Monday to Friday, October 5 to 23, with additional exhibition days on Saturday and Sunday, October 24 and 25.

To be able to accommodate the maximum number of artists and guests while safely observing social distancing protocols, the Gallery is limiting the number of attendees to eight guests per ticketed 25-minute time slot, although it has extended gallery hours and days of operation.

From Wednesday September 30 to Saturday, October 3, the Gallery is open from 12 to 9 p.m. On Sunday, October 4, it is open from 12 to 6 p.m.

Each ticket admits one person, and there is a maximum of two tickets per reservation. Attendees are advised to have their EventBrite ticket either printed or easily accessible and on their phone.

After the preview, tickets won’t be required, but guests are still encouraged to call or email the Gallery with intended visit dates and times so staff can prioritize your attendance over walk-in guests in the event that safe social distancing capacity is reached.

The free show, the eighth since Kennedy started it in 2013 as an emergency replacement for a last-minute cancellation, has “launched a thousand careers” and will feature a plethora of artists and their custom drink coasters, which you can buy online starting at $4.

As the clock strikes midnight between September 30 to October 1, the 8th Annual Coaster Show will be open to online sales to the general public. Individual coasters can be purchased online via the Gallery’s secure shopping cart, www.gallery30south.com/coaster-show-2020.

As in years past, Gallery 30 South will sell full sets of coasters before opening-up sales to individual coaster purchases. If you or someone you know is interested in a full set of a particular artist’s coasters, or full sets of coasters by multiple artists, send an email with your or your friends’ names, email and phone number to info@gallery30south.com.

Due to current public health regulations, the Gallery will not be serving food or refreshments and will not provide a public restroom, so please plan accordingly. Masks must be worn at all times inside the gallery, and they must cover both mouth and nose at all times.

Gallery 30 South is located at 30 S. Wilson Ave., just south of Colorado Blvd., in Pasadena.
