Great Support for Teens Facing Challenges That Can Impact Mental Wellness

Published on Feb 26, 2023

Teenagers face a variety of challenges that can impact their mental health, from the stress of school and social pressures to the isolation caused by the pandemic. To address these issues, the AFSP Greater Los Angeles and Central Coast Chapter is sponsoring a virtual presentation entitled “It’s Real: Teens and Mental Health” on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

This 45-minute program is designed for high school classes or community settings with groups of teens between the ages of 14 and 18. “It’s Real: Teens and Mental Health” provides young people with mental health education and resources, helping to raise awareness about mental health issues, how to start a conversation about mental health, the importance of self-care, and how to reach out for help.

During the presentation, attendees will learn what mental health is and how it relates to physical health, how to recognize signs of someone needing help, tips and strategies for having a caring conversation with someone they might be worried about, methods of self-care for the mind, body, soul, and surroundings, and examples of trustworthy resources. The presentation emphasizes how reaching out to trusted adults can help teens manage their mental health.

The virtual event is free of charge, and participants must be 14 years old or older to attend. Those interested in attending can register for the event at https://isrpm.attendease.com/ or call for more information. This program provides an opportunity for teenagers to learn about mental health and the resources available to them, helping to promote a healthier and more supportive community.
