Harambee Ministries Marks 40th-Anniversary With a Block Party

Published on Aug 27, 2022

Side Street Projects in Pasadena is celebrating its neighbor Harambee Ministries’ 40th anniversary with a Family Reunion Block Party on Saturday, Aug. 27, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This Block Party is a fun free day of community with music, food trucks, and Harambee performances from the Ministries’ Summer Academy. The celebration will be a gathering with friends, partners and supporters, and featuring a presentation to celebrate Harambee’s special 40 honorees.

In collaboration with artist Alan Nakagawa, Side Street Projects will provide zines about his artist residency focusing on archiving history at the Pasadena Buddhist Temple, in hopes of encouraging anyone to document their community or family stories. There will also be art activities for community members to help paint the new Black Lives Matter and Pride banners for the temple.

Your local business or non-profit organization can be part of the Block Party with a sign-up fee that covers a table, a tent, a banner and your non-profit permit fee. A Harambee Ministries announcement said the first ones to register will receive prime location spots near the main stage and the Harambee Hub.
