The Cancer Support Community Greater San Gabriel Valley (CSC) is gearing up for its illustrious 34th annual Angel Gala, promising an evening of elegance and purpose with this year’s theme: “Dapper Derby Soiree.” Scheduled for the enchanting hours of 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. pm on Sunday, May 19th, the event will unfold in the scenic surrounds of Santa Anita Park, offering guests a blend of entertainment, homage, and solidarity in the face of cancer.

This year’s gala kicks off with a VIP Race and Reception, a tribute to CSC’s mission and this year’s honorees, Tom and Karen Capehart, whose contributions have significantly propelled the organization’s efforts. The evening’s agenda is brimming with activities designed to engage and delight attendees. From a speakeasy cocktail reception and an awards presentation to enthralling live and silent auctions and a raffle teeming with unique prizes, the event promises an unforgettable experience. Culminating in dinner and dancing, the gala offers a perfect amalgamation of celebration and philanthropy.

The 2024 Angel Gala is brought to life by four dedicated event co-chairs: Board Members and Benefactor Society Members Melissa Alcorn, Serge Melkizian, Dana Naples, and a steadfast Guild Member and supporter, Lydia Valenta. This team, boasting gala veterans among its ranks, combines decades of dedication to CSC’s cause with a fresh zeal to make this year’s gala a landmark event.

Event Co-Chair and Board Member Serge Melkizian said, “We invite everyone to join us May 19th at the Angel Gala. Everyone is impacted by cancer – whether personally or through a loved one, friend or colleague.”

Fellow Co-Chair Melissa Alcorn added, “Cancer Support Community just happens to throw some of the best parties in town, so don’t expect your average nonprofit fundraiser – this event is going to be unique and FUN!”

“Each year, we know that our Angel Gala is vital to our operations – and this year is no different. In 2023, we moved from Pasadena to our new permanent home in Sierra Madre and we served more individuals than ever before. With our new state of the art facility, we are eager to serve more in 2024, which takes more resources,” says Patricia Ostiller, JD, CFRE, the CEO of Cancer Support Community.

With the support of over 50 sponsors and donors, CSC invites the public to join in supporting the Angel Gala. Opportunities to contribute include becoming a sponsor, donor, or guest at the Dapper Derby Soiree, each pathway offering a chance to stand in solidarity with those affected by cancer.
