Hop on Over to Old Pasadena’s Central Park for the Jackalope Indie Artisan Fair This Weekend

Published on Apr 27, 2023

The return of the Jackalope Indie Artisan Fair has been anticipated by many, marking a weekend devoted to the enjoyment of handmade artistry and family-friendly shopping experiences. A remarkable gathering of over 200 talented artisans will showcase their wares in beautifully curated booths, adorning the historic Central Park in Old Town Pasadena from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the 29th and 30th of April.

The fair was founded in 2014 by friends Sara Diederich and Melissa Kohout after they left their corporate art jobs to create a space where the community could meet the makers behind the items and give them the opportunity to reach out to thousands of people and sell their items. Their mission was to make shopping for handmade items accessible and to bring local communities together.

Despite the pandemic, Diederich and Kohout took the opportunity to expand their online presence and created an online marketplace, which has actually expanded their reach. The fair now operates in four cities across the United States: Burbank, Pasadena, Denver, and Minneapolis.

Each fair showcases over 150 local makers who focus on handmade artistry. The goods on offer at the Pasadena fair, as currently listed on the event website, will include fashion-forward socks, wildflower seed balls, ube cinnamon rolls, tufted wall art, home décor and houseware, DIY, Jackalope-themed merch, and many more.

Visitors will also get to see young artisans from the Pasadena Unified School District’s Visual Arts and Design Academy (VADA) and Pasadena Rose High School as they showcase their work. This year, the organizers are partnering with PUSD and offering $5 gift cards to the first 100 faculty members or students with a PUSD ID.

Using the Jackalope Indie Artisan Fair website, www.jackalopeartfair.com, attendees can pre-plan their shopping online and view all participating artisans while learning more about this unique event. This is a great opportunity to shop for unique handmade items while supporting local artisans.
