Italian Jazzmaker Jasmine Tommaso Headlines Sunday at Jazz in the Playhouse Village Park

Published on Jul 9, 2023

Rome-born Jasmine Akahlia Tommaso takes to the Van Halen Stage in the Playhouse Village Park Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. for a free concert.

Pick up a picnic from local eateries and bring a blanket to savor music under the stars.

Tommaso’s performances, noted for their enchanting blend of rhythm and melody, are frequent features in LA’s top jazz venues.

From the historic Italian cities of Umbria and Lucca to the iconic Watts Towers in Los Angeles, Tommaso’s captivating artistry has left a global imprint on the jazz stage. Her talent has led her to share the spotlight with luminaries Stefano Bollani, Danilo Rea, Tia Fuller, Kim Thompson, and Fabrizio Bosso.

Since relocating to Los Angeles in 2011, Tommaso has carved her space in the city’s vibrant jazz scene. Notably, she appeared as a backup vocalist on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.”

Her latest album, “Nelle Mie Corde,” received high praise in her home country of Italy. Rai3 Fahrenheit, a renowned Italian jazz station, recently honored the album with their “record of the week” award.

The “Jazz in the Park” concert series this summer is hosted by the Ice House Comedy Club and features free concerts on the Van Halen Stage at the new Playhouse Village Park every Sunday through July.  Next week, Little Brazil brings Brazilian music from a contemporary perspective.

Playhouse Village Park is located at 701 E Union St.
