Japanese Taiko Drum Ensemble Sounds Off Saturday at AAPI Heritage Month Event

The South Pasadena Chinese-American Club (SPCC) and the City of South Pasadena are spearheading a celebration of Asia American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month on Saturday, May 21, at Garfield Park in South Pasadena.

This is the SPCC’s first annual AAPI Heritage Month celebration. The event kicks off at 11 a.m. with a Taiko Drum performance by LA Taiko Ichiza, a Japanese Taiko drum ensemble based in Little Tokyo in Downtown Los Angeles, followed by a Lion Dance by the San Gabriel Valley Chinese Cultural Association (SGVCCA).

Throughout the afternoon, the celebration will feature activity booths, live entertainment, food and drinks, demos, art installations, and lots of cultural presentations including martial arts and Asian dance.

U.S. Congresswoman Judy Chu has been invited as guest speaker, and South Pasadena Mayor Michael Cacciotti, along with the South Pasadena City Council members, will be attending as well.

This is a free-entry event, and is open to all ages.
