Jazz Legend Bennie Maupin to Perform at Storrier Stearns Japanese Garden

Published on Aug 13, 2023

Celebrated woodwind artist Bennie Maupin and his ensemble are scheduled for a special jazz concert at the Storrier Stearns Japanese Garden on Sunday, August 27 at 5:30 p.m. As gates open at 5:00 p.m., attendees are in for an evening juxtaposed with the elegance of the Niko-an teahouse in the backdrop.

Bennie Maupin, on the cusp of his 83rd birthday, remains an active force in the global jazz community. Earlier this year, Maupin showcased his talents at the Philharmonie De Paris, marking his prominence alongside trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire in the Bird and Basquiat: Now’s The Time concert.

Joining Maupin for the evening will be his Los Angeles ensemble: David Arnay on piano and keyboard, Darek Oles on bass, Kenny Sara on drums, and Eric McKain on percussion. This acclaimed group has showcased its prowess at numerous jazz festivals and venues for nearly three decades.

The garden, located at 270 Arlington Drive in Pasadena, ensures a serene setting for the concert. Although chairs will be provided, attendees have the freedom to choose their comfortable spots. Admission is set at $30 per person, with children aged 12 and under being welcomed free of charge.

Prospective attendees should note that while registrations are filling up rapidly, there is free parking available at 355 W. State St., with the garden being a brief walk north on Orange Grove from the intersection of S. Orange Grove Dr. and W. State Street.

Tickets are going fast. Click here to register.
