Journey of Remembrance, Hope, and Support: Out of the Darkness Greater Los Angeles Pasadena Walk

Published on Nov 4, 2022

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is leading an “Out of the Darkness Greater Los Angeles Pasadena Walk” on Saturday, Nov. 5, starting at 10 a.m.

“The Out of the Darkness Community Walk is a journey of remembrance, hope, and support,” according to an AFSP Pasadena announcement. “It unites our communities and provides an opportunity to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental health conditions have affected our lives and the lives of those we love and care about.”

Every dollar raised through the Out of the Darkness Walks allows AFSP to invest in life-saving research, education, advocacy, and support for those impacted by suicide.

The Greater Los Angeles Pasadena Walk is one of hundreds of Community Walks happening in cities across the country. They are the core of the Out of the Darkness movement, which began in 2004. These events give people the courage to open up about their own connections to the cause, and a platform to create a culture that’s smarter about mental health. Friends, family members, neighbors and coworkers walk side-by-side, supporting each other and in memory of those they’ve lost.

There is no registration fee or required fundraising minimum for the Community Walk, but everyone who is 13 or older by the date of the Walk are required to register.

Registration can be done online until noon local time the Friday before the event. If you miss the online deadline or would prefer to register in person, you are more than welcome to do so on the day of the event. Registration tables will be around the entry area at Central Park. These tables are also where you will pickup your swag bag (while supplies last), t-shirt coupon, and one complimentary ticket to the basket drawing; additional tickets are available for purchase.

If you are bringing a donation to the event, please bring it to the registration table.

The AFSP also holds Out of the Darkness Campus Walks; these are signature student fundraising series, designed to engage youth and young adults in the fight to prevent suicide, the third leading cause of death among people ages 15 to 24.
