KPCC Hosts Unheard LA, a Deeper Listening Series Surrounded Around Stories about ‘Home’

Published on Dec 1, 2020

KPCC in Pasadena and LAist is hosting the fourth season of “Unheard LA” starting on Wednesday, December 2, a deeper listening live storytelling series featuring authentic first-person experiences in Southern California.

Unheard LA is a live, community-driven storytelling series that takes place at theaters around the greater Los Angeles area. Each show is free, unique, and features a curated lineup of real people sharing true stories of life here in Southern California.

Theater artist and Watts native Bruce A. Lemon, Jr. is the Unheard LA host, helping to connect each story, storyteller, and show venue along the way.

This Wednesday, the virtual show will feature stories related to the theme of “home.” Alex Alpharaoh shares his recollections of one memorable house in a childhood spent on the move. Joe Limer says he can pack up his belongings in under an hour, the result of a peripatetic early life, and Cara Lopez Lee recalls how a freeway changed the course of her younger years.

Joining host Bruce Lemon, Jr. is Race In LA’s Dana Amihere who helps unpack all of the significance of the idea of home.

KPCC also encourages you to share your stories about your Southern California experience, which may become part of Unheard LA soon.

“When we say Unheard LA is community driven, we mean that the stories come from community members like you,” KPCC said. “In fact, we want to specifically hear from YOU. Some Unheard LA folks are seasoned storytellers. Many aren’t. Some have never done any kind of public speaking before. Not to worry, we’re here to work with you; we’ll help you develop your story so that you can sound your best.”
