Pasadena Senior Center will be hosting Dr. Timothy Doran, Associate Professor of Ancient History and Big History at California State University Los Angeles, as he presents “History, Art, and Religion of Ancient Egypt,” a series of lectures where he guides you through the fascinating and complex history of ancient Egypt that has inspired artists and scientists alike for millennia.

The series begins on Tuesday, June 8, and will be online on Zoom every Tuesday, 2 to 4 p.m., up to June 29.

Dr. Doran will be discussing the compelling landscape of Egypt’s history starting in prehistoric times through to the death of Cleopatra.

Professor Doran is a classicist (a scholar of Greco-Roman culture) specializing in Ancient Sparta. He has taught in many fields of Greek and Roman history, linguistics, religion, philosophy, art, archaeology, and other aspects of material culture, and occasionally teaches classes in the Greek and Latin languages.

At CSU Los Angeles, he teaches Greek, Roman, Ancient Near Eastern, and Egyptian history and ancient religions. He also teaches Big History, which is the history of everything from the Big Bang to the Heat Death of the Universe, drawing on astronomy, geology, biology, anthropology, demography, political science, and history.

At the moment, Dr. Doran is working on his second book, “The Spartan Genos: Eugenics, Consanguinity, and Hereditarianism in Ancient Sparta.”

Registration for the lecture series is $50 for Pasadena Senior Center members, and $60 for non-members.
