Pasadena Walking Tours will be offering three historical events this month: Explore Pasadena on Sunday, June 6, South Pasadena on Sunday, June 13, and Pasadena again on Sunday, June 20.

Each tour tells the rich history of the founding of the two communities and how they’ve grown over the years as participants view the buildings and the architecture that make each of these places unique.

Explore Pasadena tells the story of how Pasadena started as a citrus-growing community and became famous worldwide as the home of some of the best-known New Year’s Day celebrations. Beyond the festivals, flowers, and tree-lined streets, the tour lets walkers learn more about the Crown City at the base of the foothills.

Both Explore Pasadena tours start at 10 a.m. from the front steps of Pasadena City Hall, 100 N. Garfield Ave., and covers about 1.5 miles in two hours.

Those tours end at the Del Mar Gold Line Station at 260 S. Raymond Ave.

The South Pasadena tour takes visitors through the city’s famous tree-lined streets and picturesque architecture and lets people learn about its colorful history, its relationship with its big sister and namesake to the north, and past and present attractions, including the Raymond Hotel, Fair Oaks Pharmacy, Rialto Theatre, and the long-gone Cawston Ostrich Farm.

Walkers will also learn about the people who built South Pasadena, and about the film studios that still flock to it for its traditional small-town Americana atmosphere.

That tour starts at 10 a.m. at the South Pasadena Metro Gold Line Station at 950 Meridian Ave., then treks 1.1 miles across the city in two hours. It ends at Jones Coffee Roasters at 1006 Mission St.

COVID-19 safety guidelines in these tours have been updated to align with the state. According to the California Department of Public Health, the use of face coverings and physical distancing is optional for fully vaccinated guests, and guides who remain physically distanced, when outdoors.

For unvaccinated guests, a face covering is required unless they can physically distance, which means being six feet or two meters apart from other guests.

The definition of a “fully vaccinated person” is somebody who has taken either the second shot of Moderna or Pfizer — or single shot of Johnson and Johnson — vaccine at least 14 days before attending a tour.
