International Women’s Day was celebrated all over the world on March 8, but as we well understand, it’s always Women’s Season everywhere. To continue the celebration, you can make your shopping special by buying a bar of soap from the Lake Avenue Ten Thousand Villages shop through the month of March, and it will be donated for use by the women who use the Women’s Room in Pasadena.

Founded in 2007, The Women’s Room is dedicated to serving women who are alone and experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness. It is a daytime refuge that welcomes 20 to 35 women who come through the door each day, making them feel whole and appreciated.

The program, run by Friends in Deed,  includes supportive services and basic needs like a shower, laundry, and healthy food. Women also have access to computers and telephones, a place to nap, arts and crafts, nature and cultural field trips, games, and fresh clothing.

Ten Thousand Villages is a non-profit fair trade retailer of artisan-crafted home decor, personal accessories and gift items from across the globe. They opened their doors on South Lake Avenue in June 2006 and were the first Ten Thousand Villages store in California.

Ten Thousand Villages has spent more than 70 years cultivating trading relationships in which artisans receive a fair price for their work and consumers have access to distinctive handcrafted items from around the world. It is a founding member of the World Fair Trade Organization.

Ten Thousand Villages is at 567 S Lake Ave, Pasadena, CA. www.villagespasadena.com
