Maranatha High School Presents ‘Beauty and the Beast’

Published on Mar 9, 2022

The Performing Arts Department at Maranatha High School in Pasadena presents “Beauty and the Beast,” based on the Academy Award-winning Disney animated feature, with play dates on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, March 10 to 12, at the Ambassador Auditorium.

This stage version includes all of the songs written by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman, along with new songs by Menken and Tim Rice. The original Broadway production ran for over 13 years and was nominated for nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

“Beauty and the Beast” tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed into his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity. This “tale as old as time” is filled with spectacular costume and set opportunities, and offers a great opportunity to bring your entire community together for family theater at its best.

The play is one of two theatrical productions that Maranatha High School Performing Arts students present each year. These productions are performed on the stage at the Ambassador Auditorium, located near the Maranatha campus.

Music and dance students also prepare for two large performances each year in the Ambassador Auditorium, and take part in various on and off campus events, among them the Los Angeles Association of Fundraising Professionals Philanthropy Day, the Candlelight Christmas Processional at Disneyland, and the Hollywood Charity Horse Show.

In Pasadena, the students also perform during the State of the City Address by the Mayor of Pasadena, as well as in the  Pasadena Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast, and various events on campus.

Performance time is 7 to 9 p.m., with an additional performance at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

General admission tickets are $15, and $10 for students and seniors. For tickets, visit https://www.purplepass.com/#u52845/Maranatha_High_School.html.
