Although middle school families won’t be able to stroll around Mayfield Senior School’s historic Bellefontaine Street campus at Open House this year, the school’s admissions team has gone above and beyond to create a dynamic virtual version of this joyful annual celebration.

Mayfield’s Virtual Open House on Sunday, Dec. 6 features a line-up of Zoom presentations and panels, where prospective families can chat directly with Mayfield administrators, teachers, students, parents and alumnae.

“This year has proved that Mayfield is so much more than a place, as our close-knit community is stronger than ever,” says Director of Admissions Merilisa Ramirez. “We hope that families will experience some of this distinctive Mayfield spirit in our Zoom sessions.”

The Virtual Open House event kicks off on Sunday morning with a welcome presentation at 11 a.m., where families can meet Head of School Kate Morin and learn more about the school’s Holy Child educational mission. Then, freshman teachers will be on hand from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to talk about 9th-grade classes—from conceptual physics to Fitness & Wellness—and the academic transition to high school.

This session will be followed by a series of panel discussions, where families can meet Mayfield students, parents and alumnae and ask them directly about their experiences. Running concurrently, between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m., are three breakout sessions—one for Cubs athletics, one for the Conservatory for the Arts program, and another for student life and leadership—where students can drop in to explore their passions beyond the classroom. To close out the day, students will have a chance to participate in interactive activities with Mayfield students on Instagram Live starting at 2 p.m.

“Even if it’s hard for you this year to choose a high school because you can’t visit, listen to the experience of the girls and picture yourself in their shoes,” says Danay Dunn ’21. “Hopefully you’ll get a sense of how special Mayfield feels!”

Families who pre-register for Sunday’s Virtual Open House can get a glimpse of the campus from their cars on Saturday, Dec. 5! The admissions office is hosting a contactless campus drive-through event for families to collect a pre-Open House goodie bag.
