Two new restaurants opened recently within the One Colorado food district along Union Street in Old Pasadena.

Main Chick Hot Chicken, serving Nashville-inspired fried chicken with spices ranging from mild to hot, opened its first brick-and-mortar location in Pasadena in July. That was after gaining recognition at the 626 Night Market, the original and largest Asia-inspired night market in the United States with events in Los Angeles and Orange County, and at the KTOWN OC night markets.

Main Chick’s chicken sandwiches, made from a chicken tender topped with special house slaw and pickles on a toasted Hawaiian Bread bun dripped in MC sauce, are a claim to fame.

Paper Rice, a fast-casual restaurant specializing in Vietnamese spring rolls with a menu that lets patrons build their own, had a soft opening last weekend and is welcoming everyone to its grand opening Friday, Aug. 28

Paper Rice offers fresh spring rolls, spring bowls, bahn mi sandwiches, mix-and-match farm-fresh vegetables, aromatic herbs, and tasty marinated proteins – caramelized pork belly, nem nuong or grilled pork sausage, and lemongrass tofu – for new and delicious combinations made to your taste.

You can also choose your own style and build your own spring rolls and spring bowls at Paper Rice. Check out the menu at www.paperrice.com.

Restaurants don’t allow dine-in currently, so you can simply order meals to go from Main Chick Hot Chicken, Paper Rice, or any other Old Pasadena restaurant and head over to the new commUNITY Dining areas along Big Bang Theory Way – colorful picnic tables and umbrellas located along the length of the historic alley from Holly Street to Green Street – and enjoy your meal. The tables and seating are properly distanced, and cleaning staff members are on hand to immediately disinfect the tables after each use.

The commUNITY dining sections are open from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
