Palomino Festival 2022 Rides Into the Arroyo on Saturday

Published on Jul 8, 2022

Goldenvoice, the promoter behind Coachella and Stagecoach, presents a new one-day country music festival for Southern California: Palomino Festival 2022, on Saturday, July 9, at Brookside Park near the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.

Kacey Musgraves will be headlining this first Palomino Festival, Goldenvoice said. The six-time Grammy winner will be joined by fellow Texan and outlaw country legend Willie Nelson and The Family.

The music begins at 12 noon.

In April, Goldenvoice talent buyer Stacy Vee said the show is an homage to a musical tradition deeply rooted in the American experience – a mix of country and western themes influenced by indie rock, punk and alternative sound. The name Palomino also pays tribute to the former Palomino Club that opened in North Hollywood in 1949 and was the best-known country music club in Los Angeles for decades. The Palomino Club closed in 1995.

“I’ve always wanted to do this type of festival, focused on music that lives on the edge lives of what is and isn’t country,” Vee told Billboard. “It’s very important to me that these artists that I cultivated amazing relationships with get their own look and moment.”

Aside from Musgraves, Wilson and The Family, more than a dozen of the genre’s most celebrated acts are on the list of performers for the Palomino Festival: Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, whose sound draws heavily from Isbell’s home state, Alabama, and the influence of Athens, Georgia; the recently reunited Turnpike Troubadours, Nashville string band Old Crow Medicine Show, masked cowboy crooner Orville Peck, Memphis-based Grammy-nominated folk, blues, gospel, soul, country, Appalachian and bluegrass artist Valerie June; guitarist and songwriter Charley Crockett, and country and western artist Nikki Lane, whose new album Highway Queen just came out.

Lane will have her Highclass Hillbilly pop-up boutique and market at the Palomino Festival as well, Vee said.

General admission passes start at $179 plus fees, and VIP passes are $399 plus fees. High Life passes are $699 and include a variety of upgrades, including upfront stage viewing area at the main stage; best in the West Tex-Mex Tastings; additional full bars, with rotating drink specials all day long; complimentary snacks and bottled water all day; exterior patios with views of both stages; early access into the festival; parking pass; and limited edition event memorabilia package.

The show is open to all ages, but High Life passes are only available for those 21 and above. Children five and under are free but accompanied by a paid adult, excluding High Life ticket holders.
