National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW), the annual celebration of the contributions and accomplishments of the U.S. travel industry, will spotlight resilience and hope in the face of the coronavirus pandemic with this year’s theme “Spirit of Travel.” In addition, the Pasadena Convention & Visitors Bureau will launch an all-new website on Monday, May 4, offering new and refreshed information for visitors, locals and meeting planners to use when planning post-COVID 19 trips and events.

Celebrated the first full week in May, National Travel and Tourism Week was created by Congress in 1983 to underscore the economic power of travel in the United States. This year, the 37th Annual NTTW, May 3-9, arrives at an opportune moment to unite the industry, celebrate its indomitable spirit and elevate the role it will play in America’s economic recovery.

“Through every hardship, I find myself in awe of the travel industry’s ability to join together, adapt, and emerge stronger than before,” said U.S. Travel Association President and CEO Roger Dow. “This is our toughest challenge yet, but what I’ve seen is that the spirit of travel has not been shattered.”

Since in-person events that have been hallmarks of NTTW in years past have been temporarily postponed, the Pasadena Convention & Visitors Bureau is engaging its local community with an interactive campaign entitled, “Connect Pasadena.” The virtual library includes educational and engaging content intended to provide Pasadenans and visitors with a variety of things to keep them active while safe at home, as the community continues to practice safe social distancing during COVID-19. Categories include fitness, yoga and mindfulness; art and culture; children’s activities; cooking and baking; music and performing arts; learning and education; technology and innovation. Those interested in learning more about “Connect Pasadena” can access the content by visiting https://www.visitpasadena.com/virtual-activities/.

“As one of the industry’s most celebrated days of the year, we are proud to unite with our fellow colleagues to champion the importance of travel by reminding visitors of the incredible sprit and resiliency of the travel industry and our workforce,” said Jeanne Goldschmidt, executive director of the Pasadena Convention & Visitors Bureau. “When we are able to travel again, Pasadena will welcome everyone with open arms.”

In addition to promoting the “Spirit of Travel” through online curated content, the Pasadena Convention & Visitors Bureau is set to launch a newly renovated and enhanced website on Monday, May 4th. The resourceful site will not only showcase the city’s renowned art & cultural institutions, diverse restaurants, historic landmarks and walkable districts, but also provide visitors and meeting planners with necessary information to plan and book an enjoyable staycation, road trip and/or event in Pasadena.
