Pasadena Folk Music Society Resumes! Concert Series Re-Launches With Mari Black Trio

Published on Sep 10, 2023

After a long hiatus due to the pandemic, the Pasadena Folk Music Society’s concert series is back with a bang. The series will resume with a performance by the Mari Black Trio, a group of talented musicians who play dance music from around the world.

The concert will take place on Saturday, Sept. 16, at 8 p.m. in the Beckman Institute Auditorium on Caltech’s campus.

The Mari Black Trio features award-winning fiddler Mari Black, guitarist Joe Magar, and percussionist Brian Falkowski. The trio plays a variety of styles, from Celtic and American folk to jazz and tango.

Caltech said it’s no coincidence that Mari Black’s appearance will be the Folk Music Society’s first concert in this venue in more than three years. She was scheduled to perform there in April 2020. Throughout the pandemic, they kept in touch with her to fulfill this long-postponed treat when it became possible.

Tickets are $25 apiece, plus a $4 convenience fee for online purchases, or $10 apiece for Caltech students and anyone age 16 or younger.

Tickets are available for purchase online at https://ci.ovationtix.com/36761/performance/11354870?performanceId=11354870 or by calling (626) 395-4652, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Tickets will also be available at the door, cash or check only, without an added convenience fee.

Free parking, including handicap parking, is available in the lot north of Beckman Auditorium, off Michigan Ave. just south of Del Mar Blvd. Additional parking can be found in two parking structures on Wilson Ave. in the first block south of Del Mar, or on nearby streets. Parking is allowed even in spaces labeled with individual names on weekends and after 6 p.m.

The Pasadena Folk Music Society has been presenting folk music concerts on the Caltech campus since 1982. The society aims to bring high-quality folk music to the Pasadena community and support local and emerging artists.
