Pasadena International Film Festival Rolls Out The Red Carpet This Week

Published on Sep 6, 2021

The Pasadena International Film Festival is back in person starting Thursday, September 9, at the Laemmle Playhouse 7 in Pasadena, with the first block starting at 4 p.m.

In 2020, the 7th PIFFwent virtual due to the pandemic. Properly masked and distanced, it’s back this year, with daily in-person screenings at Playhouse 7, located at 673 E. Colorado Blvd.

“We figured now would be a good time because we’re hoping with the vaccine and with summer, right before things get rocking and rolling, that this would be a good time to finish the festival,” Jessica Hardin, Festival Director, said last month in announcing the return to in-person screenings.

The Festival started in 2012 after two industry veterans who live in Pasadena saw an opportunity to create an event for a City that has been known for its arts and culture scene.

The PIFF is now rated among the top 100 film festivals out of over 5,000 film festivals worldwide, according to FilmFreeway.

Traditionally, every film block at the PIFF has ended with a moderator-hosted Q and A, and in the evening, filmmakers, screenwriters, and passholders gather to network over libations at the Lounge. Panels have taken place at the historic Vroman’s bookstore, with the eight-day event culminating at the Great Gatsby Gala and Award Ceremony at the Speakeasy in Old Town Pasadena.

This year, for eight days and nights, PIFF 2021 will showcase more than 100 entrants from over 15 countries including features, shorts, documentaries, music videos, animation and web series. For a tentative schedule of the film showings, visit www.pasadenafilmfestival.org/piff2021-program.

Every film programming block ends with a moderator-hosted Q&A. Guests can also mix and mingle in the lobby, have their picture taken on the red carpet, chat with the press, or hobnob with the stars, if they’re available on-site.
