California trucks dominate the food truck universe, according to a recent study by ZenBusiness. They hold four positions in the study’s top 10, with the leader being Pasadena’s very own Los California Tacos.
In 1979, said the study, Victor and Juana Garcia were among early food truck pioneers, setting up a 1959 Ford Step-Van as Pasadena’s first tacos-on-wheels. Today, 985 reviews and a 4.5-star Yelp! rating make them America’s favorite, and the envy of taco trucks across this great land.
No one does it better than red food truck emblazoned with Pasadena imagery parked in the lot at Nishikawa Auto Service after 5:30 p.m. every night (after 5:00 p.m. Sundays). They’re serving until 11:30 p.m. nightly except fridays and Saturdays, when you can line up to 2:30 a.m.
For each city, ZenBusiness used Yelp to locate “food trucks” and sorted them by ‘recommended.’ The top food truck for each city is the highest-ranked result (as appeared on the 1st page of search results) with at least 20 reviews and a star rating equal to or higher than 4.5.
As the study noted, “The coronavirus pandemic changed how people live, work and play. The world of business has had to adapt to the seismic changes that nobody saw coming.
The study added, “The food truck sector was quick to adapt and has thrived by selling in residential neighborhoods and embracing food delivery apps.”
Despite a battered economy, according to the study, analysts predict the food truck business to double from $3.93 billion in 2020 to $6.2 billion globally by 2027.
