Pre-Concert Discussion Preludes Pasadena Conservatory of Music’s Upcoming ‘Ornament of the World” Concert

Published on Feb 22, 2022

The Pasadena Conservatory of Music (PCM) is hosting a pre-concert discussion as a companion event for “The Ornament of the World – Musical Interludes” concert that’s happening on Saturday, Feb. 26, at PCM’s  Olin and Ann Barrett Recital Hall.

The discussion will be on Zoom on Wednesday, Feb. 23, and will feature KUSC’s Brian Lauritzen, who converses with special guests – among them performers Samela Aird Beasom and Susan Judy from Voxfire, and Afif Taian (Oud). Together, they offer a deeper dive into the relevant themes related to María Rosa Menocal’s work.

“The Ornament of the World: How Muslims, Jews, and Christians Created a Culture of Tolerance in Medieval Spain”  is an enthralling history – widely hailed as a revelation of a “lost” golden age, brings to vivid life the rich and thriving culture of medieval Spain, where for more than seven centuries Muslims, Jews, and Christians lived together in an atmosphere of tolerance, and where literature, science, and the arts flourished.

The discussion event begins at 11 a.m.

Admission to the book discussion is free, but please RSVP to Wendy Vazquez at wvazquez@pasadenaconservatory.org, or call (626) 683-3355 ext. 109.

For Saturday’s concert, tickets are $100 each and includes a post-concert wine and hors d’oeuvres reception in the PCM Courtyard, with food provided by Julienne Fine Foods. Reservations are required. Masks and proof of full vaccination are required for entry. Be prepared to show your vaccination card (or digital copy) and a photo ID.

To purchase tickets, visit www.pasadenaconservatory.org/event/the-ornament-of-the-world.

PCM is located at 100 N. Hill Ave. in Pasadena.
