Rugpublic to Host Auction This Weekend Amid Showroom Closure

Published on Jun 23, 2023

Local family-owned rug retailer, Rugpublic, will host a two-day auction on June 24th and 25th, as it downsizes following the closure of its Montrose showroom, according to owner Mehmet Bozatli.

The auction, running from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days, aims to help the business offload excess inventory, Bozatli revealed in an interview. He mentioned the auction is an opportunity for customers to acquire high-quality rugs at significantly reduced prices.

Rugpublic, a locally-operated business with a 40-year history, is renowned for its connection to its rug manufacturers, as well as its deep-rooted relationship with the community. “A lot of our customers get really excited…that we’re locals just like they are,” Bozatli said.

Despite the physical store closure on June 18th, Rugpublic will continue to offer its products online and plans to launch an in-home service in the fall, Bozatli shared.

The decision to downsize came as a response to increasing rental rates in Los Angeles County. Rugpublic’s commitment to quality products and affordable prices remains unwavering amid these changes.

“We want people to buy rugs that will be in their family for generations,” Bozatli affirmed, emphasizing Rugpublic’s mission to provide customers with lasting, quality products.

Despite not auctioning off the entirety of their current stock, the company promises a wide range of items for bidding, including vintage and antique pieces. Bozatli encouraged interested parties to sign up for Rugpublic’s email list for detailed updates about the auction and future services.
