Published on Oct 2, 2021

National Theatre Live at Boston Court Pasadena will feature “Follies,” Stephen Sondheim’s legendary musical, on Saturday, October 9, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, October 10 starting at 1:00 p.m.

This is an in-person screening that will be socially distanced with only 50-percent capacity. Masks and face coverings are still required for all staff and audience members. All audience members will be required to show proof of vaccination and photo ID, and everyone entering the building will be required to undergo a symptom and temperature check.

“Follies” is set in New York in 971. There’s a party on the stage of the Weismann Theatre. Tomorrow the iconic building will be demolished. Thirty years after their final performance, the Follies girls gather to have a few drinks, sing a few songs and lie about themselves.

Tracie Bennett, Janie Dee and Imelda Staunton play the magnificent Follies in this dazzling production. Featuring a cast of 37 and an orchestra of 21, Sondheim’s musical was directed by Dominic Cooke and filmed live on stage at the National Theatre in 2017.

Sondheim is a winner of Academy, Tony, Grammy and Olivier awards. His previous work includes “A Little Night Music,” “Sweeney Todd” and “Sunday in the Park with George.”
