Share Coffee With a Cop During Pasadena Village’s ‘National Villages Day’ Celebration Tuesday

Published on Feb 15, 2022

Pasadena Village, an independent nonprofit that’s part of the Village Movement throughout the United States, is hosting a celebration of National Villages Day on Tuesday, Feb. 15, with free coffee and refreshments at the Flintridge Center lot at 236 W. Mountain Street, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

“Villages” are local grass-roots organizations focused on making it easier, safer, and more enjoyable for older adults to “age in place” in their own homes. The movement has grown to more than 300 community-based Villages with more than 40,000 members nationwide since it was founded 20 years ago in Boston, Mass.

The celebration includes Coffee with a Cop in cooperation with the Pasadena Police Department, and a meet-and-greet with the Tournament of Roses 2022 Rose Queen and her Court.

During Coffee with a Cop, members of the community are encouraged to ask questions, voice their concerns, or just get to know the men and women who serve Pasadena as public safety and law enforcement officers.

The event also includes raffle draws and brief remarks by local dignitaries at 11 a.m. to honor the occasion. Pasadena Congresswoman Judy Chu and Mayor Victor Gordo are expected to be among the guests.

National Villages Day commemorates the 20th anniversary of the Village Movement and the positive impact Villages are having on the experience of aging.

The Village Movement began in Boston in 2002 when a small group of Beacon Hill neighbors established the first Village. Now, the Village Movement is a thriving network of more than 300 nonprofit, community-based Villages across the country.

Pasadena Village, part of that movement, is a community of adults over 55 years old who support each other while living independently. The group now has over 130 members who engage in discussion groups, social activities, support groups, and educational programs.

Masks are required during Tuesday’s celebration. Pasadena Village also requires those who attend in-person gatherings be fully vaccinated, or have had a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours.
