The Sierra Madre Playhouse has announced a lineup of theater, film, and concert events for the July to December 2023 season, promising a variety of entertainment options for the Pasadena community.
The season kicks off with a three-weekend run of “The Turn of the Screw,” a two-person play adapted from Henry James’s suspenseful tale of horror and repressed sexuality. The production, which questions the reality of its ghostly apparitions, will be staged from July 14-17, July 21-23, and July 28-30.
Next in line is “Mr. Yunioshi,” a one-man comedy returning after its successful run at the Solo Shows Festival 2023.
Asian American actor J. Elijah Cho portrays Mickey Rooney, grappling with the ethics of playing an Asian character in the film “Breakfast At Tiffany’s.” The show runs for two weekends, from August 4-6 , 2023 and August 11-13.
Then, for the first time, Sierra Madre Playhouse will host a silent film festival on August 26 and 27.
“The Camera Is Ours Silent Film Festival” celebrates the influential women of early Hollywood and features screenings of classic silent films along with piano performances and expert discussions.
The fall season will introduce a brand new musical, “The Right Is Ours!,” running from September 8 to October 8. This mainstage production, written by Lloyd J. Schwartz and Adryan Russ, tells the story of Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony’s extraordinary friendship and their influential role in the Women’s Suffragist Movement.
Rounding off the year, Sierra Madre Playhouse’s Patsy Cline, Cori Cable Kidder, will return with her original WWII-era military-themed holiday concerts in “A USO Christmas Show,” from November 24 to December 23. Kidder’s performances will feature military and holiday classics of the 1940s, accompanied live by Sean Paxton on piano and a 3-piece band.
