Singer Clayton Chaney Performs “Contemplative Americana Folk-Rock” at the Coffee Gallery Backstage

Published on Apr 26, 2022

Singer-songwriter Clayton Chaney will be performing with violinist, pianist, and mandolinist Philip Glenn at the Coffee Gallery Backstage in Altadena on Thursday, April 28, starting at 8 p.m.

An Arkansan turned Angeleno, Chaney’s songs seem to narrate an ever-changing West Coast coming-of-age. He draws inspiration from the old sounds of Roger Miller, Elvis Presley, and The Band while indulging in newer influences like Dawes, John Moreland and Jonny Fritz. His sound is what you’d call “Contemplative Americana Folk-Rock.”

As the former frontman of indie-bluegrass band The Show Ponies, Chaney has experienced America’s big cities and small towns from stages across the U.S. His first EP as a solo artist, “Thinking Those Thoughts,” debuted in January of 2020. Since then, he has been releasing singles accompanied by videos to create a memorable song catalog that is both humorous and hard-hitting.

Philip Glenn is Chaney’s former bandmate in The Show Ponies. He will be playing fiddle, banjo, and mandolin.

Tickets to Thursday’s concert are $20.
