Looking for ways to stay active and engaged with fellow older adults? Look no further than Pasadena Village. This nonprofit organization offers a variety of health and wellness programs to help you stay fit and healthy.

From line dancing to healthy cooking demos, hiking to ping pong, and even simple dance moves, there’s something for everyone. And with the Walk with Ease program, you can build a community of support while combating the negative effects of isolation. Plus, membership includes over 50 small group gatherings a month, as well as additional help as needed, such as volunteer provided-rides, IT help, Educational Programs, and referrals.

Line Dancing April 1
Try Line Dancing with instructor Francisco Martinez on Saturday 4/1 at 11 AM at the Women’s Twentieth Century Club, 5105 Hermosa Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90041. This one-hour introductory line dancing class is sure to be fun and energizing.

Francisco Martinez is a professional Dancer, Choreographer, Teacher Trainer and former dance studio owner with over 20 years’ experience in Ballroom, Salsa, Tango, Swing & Country. He currently teaches and hosts monthly Ballroom dances in Southern California. All abilities are welcome. Free for Village and Women’s Twentieth Century Club members; $10 for guests. Healthy Cooking Demo April 14
Pasadena Village is again partnering with the Altadena Libraries, this time on a free simple cooking demonstration with Chef Gloria Felix of Chefs for Seniors-Pasadena on Friday 4/14 at 3 PM. Older adults will learn healthy eating tips, taste samples of nutritious soup and salads, and discover ways of staying healthy while managing health conditions. Chef Gloria is the Executive Chef and Franchise Owner of Chefs For Seniors-Pasadena and graduate of Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts-Pasadena. Registration is through the Altadena Library at www.altadenalibrary.org.

Walk with Ease Starting June 1
Pasadena Village is offering another six-week session of the popular Walk with Ease program. The Arthritis Foundation’s Walk With Ease Program is a community-based physical activity and self-management education program. It includes health education, stretching and strengthening exercises, and motivational strategies. Participants will engage in six guided walks together, encouraging each other, building a community of support, and combating the negative effects of isolation. This will be a free six-week journey to better health. Join fellow older adults to build the community of support you need to feel great. This session will take place in Hamilton Park, 3680 Cartwright St, Pasadena, CA 91107 on Thursday mornings starting at 8 AM from 6/1 to 7/6. Free. Other Health & Wellness Programs
Village members meet regularly for walking, hiking, ping pong, and presentations from medical professionals. New this month, a member will lead a Body Groove-inspired session where fellow members can engage in very simple dance moves that will work the whole body while having fun. The introductory session will be held on Thursday, April 27 at 11 AM at the Village Office, 236 W Mountain St #104, Pasadena, CA 91103. This Groove session is only open to Village members. Older adults are invited to consider joining as a member – the annual membership fee ranges based on income from $120-960/year and includes the opportunity to join over 50 small group gatherings a month, plus additional help as needed such as volunteer provided-rides, IT help, Educational Programs, and referrals.

Older adults can also stay active through local recreation offerings through the City of Pasadena Parks, Recreation, and Community Services, and City of San Marino Community Services, and other city and county recreation departments. Local senior centers, and even the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center offers ways to stay active both in and out of the pool. Seniors can improve their mobility, maintain fitness, and have fun doing it! This community has a plethora of options to stay active and fit for life.

Pasadena Village is composed of over 140 active older adults who live in the west San Gabriel Valley and adjacent areas. They stay connected via active walking and hiking gatherings, support groups, and discussion meetings, and support each other and contribute to the local community as they age in place. They plan educational programs and cultural activities to engage in lifelong learning, and to connect with each other and the wider community.
