Stumptown Coffee Roasters plans to open its latest cafe here in Pasadena, on Saturday, Feb. 17, bringing its renowned hand-crafted coffees to the heart of the city.

“We are thrilled to be opening a cafe in Pasadena,” Jon Perry, Vice President of Retail at Stumptown, said in a Stumptown statement. “Each of our cafes has a distinct personality that ties directly to the neighborhood. We set out to design a cafe that would become a part of the fabric of Pasadena, offering a welcoming, inclusive place to enjoy exceptional coffee.”

Partnering with design studio Wrk Shp in Los Angeles, Stumptown’s cafe design takes inspiration from a record store theme. The cafe entrance embraces an inside/outside concept, featuring a roll-up door that remains open during operating hours. Visitors are greeted by a meticulously curated art wall and a profusion of locally sourced plants from The Standard Design Group.

“We created a space that feels like someone’s well-loved living room filled with art, music, and of course hand-crafted coffee,” Hanna Boone, Creative Director at Wrk Shp, said.

The statement said local artists such as Jenna Homen and Victoria Morris have contributed to the cafe’s ambiance, with Homen making the hand-painted the gilded signage along with a larger-than-life coffee cup portrait that adorns the cafe after hours, and Morris, a ceramist, crafting the hanging lampshades in the cafe.

Artist Chris Chandler created a custom fine art piece that hangs inside the heart of the cafe, right next to a glowing, neon Stumptown horseshoe with a lightning bolt.

Patrons will find a curated menu of Stumptown’s hand-crafted coffees, classic espresso drinks, pour-overs of single-origin coffees, and cold brew beverages. A selection of gluten-free and vegan options, including pastries from Bread Lounge and hot breakfast sandwiches from Farmshop, a curated artisanal market, are also available.

The cafe will operate from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, the statement said.

During the grand opening, the first 50 guests will receive a complimentary swag bag containing a limited-edition mug and a bag of Stumptown coffee. Local DJ Richard La will spin records from Commune, a local vinyl store, while a special Raspberry Rose Cortado will be featured all day.

Opening Day will also feature a special guest bartender, Han Suk Cho, known for his nuanced approach to flavors, will craft non-alcohol coffee cocktails from 1 to 4 p.m.

“We are extremely honored to have Cho, who is currently a bartender at Kato, beautifully craft three amazing cocktails using our coffee for the opening,” Perry said.

Located at 1982 Lincoln Ave. in Pasadena, Stumptown Coffee Roasters will be a vibrant addition to the local coffee scene, blending artisanal coffee culture with community warmth.

Stumptown Coffee Roasters opened its flagship café and roastery in 1999 in Portland, Oregon. With the Pasadena location opening, they now have eight cafes throughout the U.S., four of them in Portland and three in New York.
