On Saturday, August 16, Sierra Madre Playhouse will unleash this unsettling fusion when F.W. Murnau’s 1922 silent masterpiece “Nosferatu” screens accompanied by the full sonic weight of Radiohead’s most experimental albums, “Kid A” and “Amnesiac.”
The screening is part of the Silents Synced Series, pairing classic silent films with modern rock music.
The marriage of Murnau’s expressionist horror and Radiohead’s electronic-influenced soundscapes creates an atmospheric experience that reimagines both works for contemporary audiences.
“Sierra Madre Playhouse’s 2025 season is our most ambitious to date and reflects the venue’s remarkable transformation over the past 100 years from a silent film house to a full-fledged performing arts center,” said Matthew Cook, the venue’s artistic and executive director.
The project represents a full-circle moment for Sierra Madre Playhouse, which began as a silent film house and now embraces experimental programming bridging cinema’s past and present.
The syncing of Radiohead’s 2000 and 2001 albums with the German expressionist film creates an entirely new artistic experience.
The Silents Synced Series is distributed by CineLife Entertainment, part of Spotlight Cinema Networks, bringing these innovative pairings to participating theaters across the United States.
