Unleash Your Inner Gardener at the Art of Citrus Care & Pruning Workshop at Arlington Garden

Published on Jun 26, 2023

In the vibrant city of Pasadena, nestled in the serene embrace of Arlington Garden, an event is set to take place that combines the artistry of gardening with the science of citrus care. On Saturday, July 1st, from 10 am to 12 pm, a unique workshop titled “The Art of Citrus Care & Pruning” is scheduled, a one-of-a-kind event in Los Angeles that combines the joy of backyard gardening with the knowledge of certified arborism.

For the third year in a row, this annual series of workshops is being held, helmed by the certified arborist and compost expert, Enjoli Ferrari. Enjoli, with her wealth of experience in developing tree hazard and protection plans, landscape design, and installation projects through her small business, Garden Savage LA, is heading the event.

A passionate advocate for the environment, Enjoli is also the Compost Hubs Program Manager for a nonprofit called LA Compost, striving to provide a local option for compost access and education. Her role with LA Compost and her work alongside a team of compost managers across seven regions of LA County is a testament to her dedication to environmental sustainability.

The event begins with an informative lecture on the seasonal care of citrus trees, encompassing tree assessment, as well as the biology and physiology of citrus. This will then be followed by a practical session of pruning, where participants will get their hands dirty, literally, as they gain practical experience on how to prune citrus trees using the Arlington Garden citrus grove as their hands-on classroom.

This is not a workshop for the faint-hearted, as pruning involves physical labor and hard work. Attendees are encouraged to dress appropriately, with boots and long sleeves, ready to embrace the dirt. Amidst the hot California sun, participants should come prepared with sunscreen, hats, and plenty of water.

The workshop promises to be an enriching experience, teaching attendees how to take care of their backyard citrus trees, and helping the Arlington Garden citrus trees become more fruitful than ever. However, due to its nature, the event is not suitable for children.

Hosted by Arlington Garden, a climate-appropriate, habitat garden maintained by volunteers and a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the event aligns with the garden’s mission to engage, educate, and demonstrate the beauty and practicality of a climate-appropriate habitat garden. Their goals of water conservation, habitat creation, and environmental sustainability are echoed in the essence of this workshop.
